Project overview

Located north of Columbia along the Saluda River, this 300 acre park is an education and recreation center with canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, picnicking, hiking and nature study. In the new Environmental Center are 3,500 square feet of exhibits which include large dioramas about the wetland and upland ecosystems and the 200 year history of ferries on the Saluda River. Other exhibits focus on cultural history, with an emphasis on the local Catawba Indians and the building of a nearby dam on the river.

All exhibits were developed in close coordination with the existing park programming and the curriculum guidelines of the Columbia school system.
