Project overview John Martin Reservoir is the summer home to hundreds of migrating plovers and terns. Because the shoreline is used by both nesting birds and the park’s human visitors, exhibits were designed to describe the nesting behavior of these birds. These exhibits show how difficult it is to see their nests and to explain why areas of the shoreline are sometimes closed to protect nests. The exhibits include a 100 square foot shoreline diorama and several quiz-type interactives. During the winter, bald eagles can be observed in the park. The eagle exhibit shown below also has quiz-type interactives, an audio of an eagle call and lifesize silhouettes of large and small birds that are common in the park. This exhibit has been designed for the future addition of a video monitor in one panel and a taxidermy mount of an eagle in flight, suspended from the ceiling.
