Lory State Park - Divide, Colorado


Project overview

Lory State Park is located where the grasslands of the great plains meet the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The exhibits focus on this biodiversity with a wide range of interactive components, including many items to touch, hear and find.

The focal point of the exhibit room is a diorama which shows a mountain lion descending a sandstone outcropping as it stalks a porcupine. In this diorama are mounts, nests, scat or tracks of a dozen other animals. Interpretive panels surrounding the diorama encourage visitors to look closely for subtle evidence of animal life. The diorama mural shows each of the four ecosystems of the park. Three outdoor panels on the viewing deck interpret the surrounding geology, ecosystems and wildlife watching opportunities.

Visitors can touch a rattlesnake model and push a button to hear an audio of a rattlesnake giving its warning.

At this exhibit visitors rotate cylinders to line up any of four animals with their range, foods and habitat. The four-sided answer stick in the foreground shows the correct combination for the bear.
