Itasca State Park - Park Rapids, Minnesota |
|||
|
At the headwaters of the Mississippi River, Itasca is Minnesota’s first and largest state park. Within the park is the state’s largest remaining old growth stands of red pine and white pine. The major exhibit topics are the Ojibwe Indians, the old growth pine ecosystem, park establishment and early tourism, and the numerous Civilian Conservation Corps projects at the park. Work began in 1999 on the new 4 million dollar visitor center and opened with the new exhibits in May of 2002. The exhibit hall is full of many different types of interactive elements – storytelling audios, videos, models, puzzles, discovery boxes, dioramas, guessing games, hundreds of artifacts, and even a wigwam built by local Ojibwe.
